A Castaway - a sonnet
A Castaway
There is no hope, no hope at all for me;
I sink, I sink, I sink beneath the wave!
This ship which I once thought would make me free
Is soon to be my coffin and my grave.
The storm is driving me I know not where;
The masts are broken, all the sails torn;
My mates have fallen each to cold despair,
And I am left in darkness all alone.
The storm alone seems true, but hope defies
The passing clouds, and marshals faith to fight
The raging dark by anchoring our eyes
On Him who walks on storms and knows no night.
Lord, You can calm the storm and rescue me,
But if not, let the winds wreck me on Thee!
