Friendship - a sonnet
Friendship
Two eyes for depth perception, seeing clear The distance between you and what's ahead Or what's behind. Myopic vision dread More than blindess. It sees only your fear. Two ears for hearing, yes; guidance, too; To recognize a voice in crowds of sound And navigate by vocal stars around Isolation's wrecking rocks and whirlpools. Two hands to clasp in prayer, and to lift up Those who've fallen, weak and world-weary; With gentle touch, rousing them from dreary Thoughts, handing them friendship's meat and filled cup. Dear friends, you've often been my hands, ears, eyes, And, through your love, Christ's, who makes the dead rise.
